The final Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the Upper Stone Canyon Reservoir Water Quality Improvement Project was released.

You may access the draft EIR and final EIR here:

http://www.ladwp.com/ladwp/cms/ladwp015022.pdf

Proposed project: Upper Stone Canyon Reservoir – construct a new buried concrete-covered reservoir with 3 ft of topsoil and shallow rooting plant species typical of the canyon; allow public access for passive recreation (pedestrian trails), to be operated by LADPR and/or the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority. See Section ES-1 of Draft EIR for a summary. See Section 2 of the Draft or Table 2-1 starting on page 1-16 in the Final for a good summary of the proposed alternatives and the impacts for a comprehensive overview of the project.

Project Objectives: Comply with EPA updated water quality standards and preserve local water storage capability to maintain reliability and flexibility; secondary objective to help restore the natural character of Stone Canyon. See ES-3 of the Draft.

Financial investment: $140m over 60 years (see ES-9 of the Draft) for the proposed project. Floating cover alternative $35m and $80m for aluminum.

Recreation: Create parking for 25 vehicles; no other amenities. A gate to prevent after hours use. All access through Mulholland Drive. Trails to be established on east and west sides of reservoir, with overlooks to Lower Stone Reservoir. Trails also established on the buried concrete cover. Exact placement of trails TBD with input from neighboring communities. Peak use estimated at 75 visitors per day on weekends and 31 per day on weekdays. See section ES-9, ES-10 and ES-12 of the Draft.

Time frame: 4 years to complete; construction start in late 2015. See ES-11 of the Draft.

Traffic: All construction vehicles route (incl. delivery and hauling) would be between I-405 and the entry via Skirball Center Drive and Mulholland Drive.

The EIR goes to the DWP Board for adoption on Feb 7th. For questions or comments please email: hillside@beverlyglen.org

Oh what a night! The Residents of Beverly Glen 2011 Holiday Party was a great success! The DLRCC was packed to the gills with residents old and new alike. Glenites and their Families enjoyed the festivities well beyond the scheduled 2 hour time frame. The success was thanks to the strong sense of community that we all share as Residents in our small 650 home hamlet.

Our local Businesses were extremely generous with donations this year. Joe Rosa from the Beverly Glen Market provided us with a scrumptious turkey. Fabrocini’s spoiled us with a fabulous pasta dish. Beverly Glen Deli donated a very generous deli platter and Tino from Mulholland Grill prepared delicious pasta. The Glen market donated the beverages and Steven Foonberg of Beverly Glen Realty continued the long tradition of supplying ample wine. We, as a community, can show our appreciation by continuing to utilize the services that our local businesses provide.

Jadon Gershon did an awesome job manning the DJ booth and Heidi Miller’s efforts were much appreciated entertaining the children at the very well-attended cookie and cupcake decorating table. I also want to thank our dear Hildreth Simmons who donated many of the holiday decorations. The afternoon set-up and decorating was made so smooth by the assistance and talent of fellow Beverly Glen Realty agent Michelle Vannoy.

A heartfelt Thank you to everyone who came early and stayed late; you made this party a success. Last but not least, a special thanks to Elke for her presence and her kind words of encouragement. It couldn’t have happened without all of us working together. I knew when my husband and I found Beverly Glen four years ago that it was magical and it truly is.

I look forward to planning the next event!

The holidays are here again and that means it’s time for the residents of Beverly Glen annual holiday party on Sunday December 11th at 5pm at the Les and Dorothy River Community Center.

We are looking for festive food donations to enhance the evening. Please call Sharalee Flesche at 310-967-9025 or email social@beverlyglen.org if you are interested in bringing food to the party. Beverly Glen Market has agreed to provide the non-alcoholic beverages and Beverly Glen Realty will continue its tradition of providing the wine. Jadon, Gia, and Allianna Remoldo are confirmed to provide the music again this year. We appreciate everyone who has donated their time and resources to the party.

I look forward to continuing the traditions established by the residents of Beverly Glen and following in the footsteps of my predecessor Elke. It’s your party, so I welcome recommendations and suggestions.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the party,
