GLEN FAIR

The most exciting Glen Event in our lifetimes will happen on June 13, 2010!
Don’t miss it!
Chris Holabird and Sara Santschi, who created the Glen Fair 50 years ago, have offered to bring back some of that original community spirit. Elke Heitmeyer, the Glen Fair chair person, is calling on ALL Glenites to rise to the occasion! We invite everybody to participate. Let your creative juices flow. We will have a children’s art area. We will have Glen musicians and dancers. We will have adult art and craft exhibits. There will be prizes to win. There will be a special section for the local artists. We will also have our arts and crafts for sales booths. There will be Plant and Garden Wisdom exhibitions. The community is once again invited to bake and cook for your neighbors. We will have a historical Photogallery. We will celebrate other anniversaries – Residents’ Association, Playgroup, DLRCC. Is anybody turning 50 next year? Any Golden Wedding Anniversaries? The Anniversary Fair will have special games and a silent auction. Think about what you can contribute that someone else might want! This fair will be as green as can be. Please contact me with your ideas and let me know, how you would like to participate!

As the summer is rapidly approaching, the traditional opening ceremony of the season historically is the Beverly Glen Fair. And so the Fair it is! It happens in June from noon to 5 pm on Beverly Glen Place. As this is The Event of The Year, mark your calendars at once! The Fair has traditionally had the purpose of getting the residents together to catch up and get to know one another in a casual atmosphere; enjoy some fabulous wine, graciously provided by Richard Renaldo; food, this year provided by the Kringles West Coast Fun Foods catering company; display various art and art wear made by the local artists and artisans; and bringing local businesses to the fair.

This year we are welcoming the Epitome, an organic salon and spa, and Dragon Books, an antique bookshop, both located in the Glen Centre; and many other acoustical and visual art performances by local residents and outside artists. It will open with the usual accoutrements such as bagpipes and the children’s parade. Yes, almost like Disneyland, but better, no traffic, and with superior weather and shade, in our own canyon microclimate. The children’s parade will lead the way for all the little ones to the kids play area, organized by Playgroup. Rumor has it that the Big Bouncie, carnival games and an animal show await the little people, not to mention the face-painting, temporary tattoos, cookie decorating, and other surprises. |

We are calling all local artists and performers to contact this year’s Event Coordinators for the Glen Fair (and residents) for information on how to join this fabulous event. All local children are invited to participate in the parade. Entry to the Fair is free to everyone. Glen membership may be purchased at the entrance and the special membership categories of Silver Sycamore and Golden Oak will receive unique designer T-shirts, not to be missed. The T-shirts will also be available for sale. All members will be offered a complimentary glass from Richard Renaldo’s fine wines collection. Should you need help or information, look for the volunteers in purple Glenite T-shirts. We welcome and deeply appreciate financial support for ongoing activities to promote ethics and peace: a portion of our proceeds will go to UNICEF (www.unicef.org) as a way to give back to the global community. Looking forward to meeting all of you at the Fair!
