Dear Garden Walk attendees,

We will gather at the LDRCC located at 10409 Scenario Lane at 1:30pm for a light lunch. Each home has happily agreed to provide additional refreshments as we progress through the canyon on our excursion.

Please be prepared with sun protection; hats or umbrellas and sunscreen. Comfortable safe walking shoes are a must.

Viretta is somewhat of a steep narrow street with several stairs leading up to the home.  Perdido does have steps but handrails are not
in place. Children are welcome but need to be able to walk up steep trails while others may wish to bring walking sticks for assistance.

A special bonus this year is that Heidi Santschi of HEIDI SANTSCHI Garden Design, Inc. and a local glen resident has agreed to join us as our horticultural leader. This is a great addition to what we hope will be a horticulturally enlightening day!

The schedule is as follows:

2pm: Walk

Chis and Marydee Donnan’s property at 10453 Scenario Lane will wow us with a World War II bomb shelter that has been
converted into a wine cellar. The property also features bird baths and fountains in a lovely amphitheater hillside setting.

2:20: Walk

Todd Clark and Jama Laurent’s property at 2225 Beverly Glen Place also known as the Conservancy Garden is blossoming.

2:40: Drive

Jan Riggs property at 10319 Viretta Lane boasts a traditional Glen property while offering beautiful roses in a quaint setting.

3pm: Drive

David May’s property at 2519 Perdido Lane is 5 acres of orchards, cactus, and lush grounds. David has been a part of the Glen Garden Walk for several years and will provide us with information on the history and development of his labor of love.  There will be an opportunity at the end of the presentation to take a 30 minute round trip hike up to the ridge that overlooks Stone Canyon Reservoir.

David has kindly requested that cars are parked on Beverly Glen Blvd or Lower Perdido Lane

Please call Sharalee 310-967-9025 or email social@beverlyglen.org  if you have any questions or suggestions.

Hello Glenites

We hope to see you tomorrow at our annual

Glen Garden WalkSunday, April 17 at 2 pm.

Thank you to our generous garden hosts Todd Clark and Jama Laurent, Ron Rosenblatt, Barton Phelps and Karen Simonson, and David May and our Guest Presenter Anne Phillips of
www.GoGreenGardeners@aol.com

Meet for refreshments at the Les & Dorothy River Community Center (LDRCC),
10409 Scenario Lane, corner of Beverly Glen Place, behind the former 4 Oaks and wear comfortable walking shoes.
Two gardens require driving, we encourage carpooling and there will be a van available.
You may need to park on Beverly Glen Blvd. and walk to the properties as the lanes cannot accommodate many cars.
You may view a satelite map of last year’s itinerary by clicking here

Gardens:

10425 Seabury Lane
Ron Rosenblatt – A garden of fruit trees, blueberries, blackberries, rainbarrels.

2225 Beverly Glen Place
Todd Clark and Jama Laurent- the ‘Conservancy Garden’, overflowing with blossoms – a presentation about organic gardening with lots of information will be given here by Guest Presenter Anne Phillips of www.GoGreenGardeners@aol.com.

10256 Lelia Lane
Barton Phelps & Karen Simonson
Arroyo House ~ Vineyards and Gardens
Framed by ridges and steep, chaparral-covered slopes, bridging a watercourse that merges with nature is Arroyo House, an architectural gem, conceived by UCLA architecture professor, Barton Phelps, and his wife, attorney Karen Simonson with a garden court set in a grove of native oaks.  Paths from the house pass by the streambed through a redwood grove then ramp to a grass parterre riveted by vineyard terraces. Rising in steps toward the ridge, three giardini segreti frame secret views down and across the arroyo.

2519 Perdido Lane

David Scott May
Orchards and Hike to Overlook of Stone Canyon Reservoir
At the top of the steep Perdido Lane David will be the guide through his orchards of a great variety of fruit trees. He will give a brief presentation on what does well,  and some on care, pruning, harvesting. The first part of the walk is mild and mostly level, covering about one acre of meadows, orchards and cactus.  For those interested David will guide the adventurous on a 15-minute walk each way to the top of the ridge overlooking the Stone Canyon Reservoir, wear good walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat and bring your binoculars or a camera, as on a clear day you can see Catalina Island.  Children are welcome but need to be able to walk up some steep trails.  Park on Beverly Glen Blvd. near Perdido or on lower Perdido.

See you tomorrow!
