Holiday Party

Oh what a night! The Residents of Beverly Glen 2011 Holiday Party was a great success! The DLRCC was packed to the gills with residents old and new alike. Glenites and their Families enjoyed the festivities well beyond the scheduled 2 hour time frame. The success was thanks to the strong sense of community that we all share as Residents in our small 650 home hamlet.

Our local Businesses were extremely generous with donations this year. Joe Rosa from the Beverly Glen Market provided us with a scrumptious turkey. Fabrocini’s spoiled us with a fabulous pasta dish. Beverly Glen Deli donated a very generous deli platter and Tino from Mulholland Grill prepared delicious pasta. The Glen market donated the beverages and Steven Foonberg of Beverly Glen Realty continued the long tradition of supplying ample wine. We, as a community, can show our appreciation by continuing to utilize the services that our local businesses provide.

Jadon Gershon did an awesome job manning the DJ booth and Heidi Miller’s efforts were much appreciated entertaining the children at the very well-attended cookie and cupcake decorating table. I also want to thank our dear Hildreth Simmons who donated many of the holiday decorations. The afternoon set-up and decorating was made so smooth by the assistance and talent of fellow Beverly Glen Realty agent Michelle Vannoy.

A heartfelt Thank you to everyone who came early and stayed late; you made this party a success. Last but not least, a special thanks to Elke for her presence and her kind words of encouragement. It couldn’t have happened without all of us working together. I knew when my husband and I found Beverly Glen four years ago that it was magical and it truly is.

I look forward to planning the next event!

Hello Neighbors!

Our community has been redistricted and will soon be represented by Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, after the June, 2012 election.  In addition to our current Assemblyman, Mike Feuer, joining us at our Annual Meeting on October 9th, Assemblywoman Butler will come to meet her new constituents!

On a personal note, I have known Betsy for many years and she is wonderful.  I am thrilled that we will soon be represented in Sacramento by this smart and passionate woman.  You can learn more about her here:

We will also have various special guests from our local police, fire and California Highway Patrol, if you have any law enforcement-related questions.

See you at the Annual Meeting!!

Posted by Social | Posted in Events, Glen Fair | Posted on 26-04-2011

The Fair on Sunday June 12 has openings –  let’s not have the “Oldtimers” do everything all the time.  Do you like people, are organized? That is all it takes.

Food Coordinator (you don’t actually have to cook, just coordinate volunteers) and Set-Up/Clean-Up Boss (everybody will chip in!). call or email me – Elke, 818.448-0277 social@beverlyglen.org.  The food coordinator arranges for people to call for contributions, arranges for things that get bought to be purchased, schedules the volunteers for the day. The Set-up/Clean-up Boss coordinates the volunteers and pick-ups (all are available) to bring the various elements to the yard, set them up and take ’em back afterwards.

Arroyo House ~ Vineyards and Gardens
Framed by ridges and steep, chaparral-covered slopes, bridging a watercourse that merges with nature is Arroyo House, an architectural gem, conceived by UCLA architecture professor, Barton Phelps, and his wife, attorney Karen Simonson with a garden court set in a grove of native oaks.  Paths from the house pass by the streambed through a redwood grove then ramp to a grass parterre riveted by vineyard terraces. Rising in steps toward the ridge, three giardini segreti frame secret views down and across the arroyo.

2519 Perdido Lane

David Scott May
Orchards and Hike to Overlook of Stone Canyon Reservoir
At the top of the steep Perdido Lane David will be the guide through his orchards of a great variety of fruit trees. He will give a brief presentation on what does well,  and some on care, pruning, harvesting. The first part of the walk is mild and mostly level, covering about one acre of meadows, orchards and cactus.  For those interested David will guide the adventurous on a 15-minute walk each way to the top of the ridge overlooking the Stone Canyon Reservoir, wear good walking shoes, sunscreen, a hat and bring your binoculars or a camera, as on a clear day you can see Catalina Island.  Children are welcome but need to be able to walk up some steep trails.  Park on Beverly Glen Blvd. near Perdido or on lower Perdido.

See you tomorrow!

RoBG & PLAYGROUP HELP MAKE HOLIDAY SHOPPING EASY

2

Posted by ROBGWebsite | Posted in Holiday Party, Playgroup | Posted on 01-12-2010

For all those anxious about what to get for the holidays, Playgroup and RoBG have worked together to make it easy, convenient and fast.

As part of a fundraiser for Playgroup, they sell gift cards to all sorts of merchants and receive a percentage of gift cards sold.  For everyday purchases such as Starbucks, Whole Foods, California Pizza Kitchen to holiday time purchases such as American Airlines, Hilton and Marriott.

Best part, it doesn’t cost you anything more than what you purchase in gift cards.  If you buy $25 Starbucks card, you get $25 worth of stuff at Starbucks (that is at least one day of coffee :-).  The merchant (Starbucks) then donates 9% to Playgroup (or $2.25), for doing nothing more than purchasing a gift card to use for everyday purchases.  Each merchant’s donation is different but you get every dollar you purchase in gift cards at the merchant/store, costs you nothing more to help Playgroup.

As a long time and important part of our community, Playgroup is a unique asset and like any non-profit, struggles to provide high quality education and reasonable prices.  Fundraising like this is a key part of ensuring it can purchase new books, chairs and other items to help our children develop and grow.

There are lots and lots of choices, for just about any purchase you do, you can get a gift card.  Playgroup will be at the Holiday Party on Sunday, they will have the following gift cards on hand:

  • Starbucks,
  • Whole Foods,
  • Gap,
  • Shutterfly,
  • Jamba Juice,
  • Restoration Hardware,
  • Ruth’s Chris

Additionally, Playgroup can take orders from any of the following merchants and deliver them to you by December 13th, in plenty of time for the holidays.

Playgroup Gift Card Merchant List

For those who want to search online, you can visit the website by clicking here:

Online Merchant List

Only takes a few minutes, think of any gifts, everyday purchases or even special purchases, by using your purchasing power for everything you spend money on, you can help Playgroup raise money.
